Found Metal

Excerpt from an article published in 2006 in Imprint magazine, vol. 41, No. 4, p12, Print Council of Australia. The article describes the Site, Surface and Memory Project funded by Arts Victoria. The resulting exhibition Domestic Collections was presented at Gallery arc in 2007 and Brunswick Street Gallery, Fitzroy in 2008.
I work from a large collection or library of metal pieces which is continually being added to. I collect from opportunity shops, antique shops and junk yards, friends give me their own 'finds'.
Any metal put through an etching press should be uniform in overall thickness; reasonably flat (no chain links or zippers) and less than 3mm thick. e.g. Knives and forks from the kitchen vary in thickness and are difficult to flatten.

I will be one the Creatives on site during the Creative Harvest Festival of edible gardens. With my little etching press I will be demonstrating 'nature printing' onto paper. I directly use botanical samples to create impressions of the plant, great detail can be achieved with ink and paper. Some of the plants I will be working with are from my host Adele's garden. Called 'Darna' this wonderful two and half acre garden is located at Darnum, in West Gippsland. I will have many prints, greeting cards and other gift items on display and for sale.
